Telehealth allows you to attend therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home using a secure video connection.
At Jaybird & Oak, telehealth sessions are provided through SimplePractice, a trusted, HIPAA-compliant healthcare platform.
Before your session, you will receive an email or text reminder with a secure link. At the time of your appointment, you simply click the link—no special software or downloads are required.
During your session, you and your therapist meet by video in a private, secure online space. Telehealth sessions are similar to in-person sessions and include the same level of care, attention, and confidentiality.
What you need:
A computer, tablet, or smartphone
A stable internet connection
A quiet, private space where you feel comfortable talking
Privacy and security:
SimplePractice uses encrypted, HIPAA-compliant technology to protect your privacy. Your therapist will also review confidentiality and answer any questions you have before starting telehealth services.Support along the way:
If telehealth is new to you, we are happy to walk you through the process and help you feel comfortable before your first session. -
Yes! In-person therapy takes place in a calm, private office space where you can feel safe and supported. Sessions are typically about 50 minutes long and are scheduled at a time that works for you.
When you arrive, your therapist will greet you and begin by checking in about how you’ve been feeling since your last session. From there, the session is a conversation guided by your needs and goals.
In-person therapy allows for a deep sense of connection and presence. It can feel especially helpful for people who prefer face-to-face interaction or who find it easier to talk in a quiet, dedicated space.
-
What to expect in your first session:
A warm welcome and a chance to get comfortable
A conversation about your reasons for seeking therapy
Discussion of your goals, needs, and what you hope to gain
Questions about your history and preferences
Time to ask questions about the process, confidentiality, and what therapy will look like
Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that fits your pace and preferences. Therapy is a collaborative process, and you are always in control of what you share.
-
The length of therapy varies. Some people come for short-term support around a specific concern, while others choose to stay longer. This is something you can talk about together and adjust over time.

At Jaybird and Oak, we offer a variety of aging services and innovation options. We are happy to discuss fees related to your specific situation before we get started. There are both health insurance and self-pay options available.
-
Yes. For clients who want to use their health insurance for therapy services, Jaybird and Oak is in-network with several health insurance companies. This includes services regularly covered by Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health, & Aetna.
Jaybird and Oak evaluates health insurance participation annually.
-
If you prefer not to use health insurance — or if we are not in network with your plan — you may attend therapy on an out-of-network (OON) basis or pay privately.
If you plan to use OON benefits, we encourage you to contact your insurance company before your first appointment to ask about your coverage for outpatient psychotherapy. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan.
Jaybird & Oak does not complete insurance paperwork, but we can provide a monthly receipt (often called a “superbill”) upon request. You may submit this document to your insurance company for possible OON reimbursement or to your Health Savings Account (HSA) administrator. Please note that clients are responsible for managing their own OON or HSA submissions and benefits.
-
A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a written estimate of the cost of medical or mental health services you can expect to pay if you don’t have insurance or if you’re paying out-of-pocket. It’s designed to help you understand the likely costs ahead of time and avoid surprise bills.
What it means for therapy
If you are paying for therapy privately, your therapist is required to provide a Good Faith Estimate when you request it. This estimate will outline:
The expected cost of your sessions
How many sessions are recommended
Any additional fees (like assessments or forms)
Why it matters
The goal of a Good Faith Estimate is to give you clear information about cost so you can plan and make informed decisions—without unexpected expenses.
